The Blushing Brides invaded The Brass Monkey this past Saturday night. More on that later.
The Brass Monkey is Ottawa’s best kept secret. Do these guys know how to run a live venue!
Big and spacious with pool in the back they sport a huge stage provide lights and have a program as good as any rock bar in the world.
The Blushing Brides sold out show treated the crowd to two live acts.
The Fenton brothers well known to Ottawa’s live music crowd played a show of originals true to their sound. As a rule, much of the show falls to Paul Fenton on guitar. He is probably Ottawa’s best slide guitar player.
The fans were boppin, the band was poppin, beer was flowing and The Fentons ruled the night.
Michael Fenton’s capable vocals and ‘in the pocket’ bass playing was exceptional. Ted Caine’s pounding on the drums was non-stop, leaving us on the edge of our seat. They ended their set with a Rory Gallagher song which was a fitting way to exit the stage.
As for The Brides they do what they do very well. A polished set of Rolling Stones songs which everyone knew and loved. This longtime act has drawn their entire career on the Stones and as one would expect they delivered.
