VerseFest 2016: Ottawa’s Poetry Festival (March 15-20)

6 days, 60 poets: A truly unique event

VerseFest is Ottawa’s festival of poetry, organized by VERSe Ottawa, an umbrella body with a membership that includes groups that produce readings around town. VERSe Ottawa originally came together to stage VerseFest 2011 and things have only gotten bigger and better since that first festival.

The VerseFest 2016 schedule is made up of events curated by the organizers of various local reading series, with each having a presentation slot during the festival. Those series each have a slightly different focus on the poetry world, and this year’s presenters include the Ottawa International Writers Festival, Kado, Tree Reading Series, Blue Mondays, In/Words, Arc Poetry Magazine, Urban Legends Poetry Slam, Bookthug, Capital Slam, Factory Reading Series, Fire and Ice, Railroad Reading Series.

This year’s VERSeFest’s Hall of Honour event (7 p.m., Sunday March 20, 2016, 7 pm) features George Elliott Clarke and Robyn Sarah, two of Canada’s most praised poets.

There are two events each evening during the week, and mutliple events on the weekend, with tickets  divided into a festival pass ($50), day passes ($20) and evening passes ($15).

Ticket details.

See below for schedule details.

All readings are at Knox Presbyterian Church, 120 Lisgar Street (corner of Elgin), Ottawa.
